Word Press and Shopping Carts

by mreed on May 9, 2009

Using Word Press is relatively easy, and it can be considered very easy when compared to some of the other Web site building and blogging tools that are available. Another great thing about Word Press is that you can do so many things with it, and one of those things is adding a shopping cart.

Before you do that, though, be sure that you really need one. Most blogs don’t, but since Word Press is also often used for blogs that have static main pages and act more like traditional Web sites, a shopping cart can sometimes be a realistic option. There are plug ins for Word Press shopping carts, so you can simply download one of those. Then wp3you’ll extract the file, upload it through FTP to the plug ins directory on your blog, and activate it. There are many places to get the shopping carts, so look around and find something you like.

Also, if you’re selling something that is through another company – i.e. you’re acting as an affiliate – you probably won’t need a shopping cart, since most affiliate programs will give you the code that you need to place an affiliate link on your site. People will click the link and go to the other company’s purchase page, so you won’t need a shopping cart. These carts are generally only for your own products
